The
Litigation Group of the Legal Department is seeking an attorney to
manage consumer finance (including relating to FCRA, FDCPA, ECOA,
TILA, Reg. Z, UDAP, GLB, and other federal and state consumer
protection laws) and commercial litigation. This junior position
will be located in either Richmond or McLean (with significant
travel to Richmond), Virginia and report to the Associate General
Counsel responsible for all Capital One card litigation and
litigation-related matters and will have responsibility for:

Developing litigation strategy, managing outside counsel, and
protecting the company’s litigation interests;
·
Identifying and analyzing potential litigation risks affecting the
company’s card business and the industry generally and recommending
viable solutions to the same; and
·
Directing
the work of and developing other associates in the Litigation Group,
including paralegals.
This role
also will involve regular interaction with business associates as
well as internal counsel.
Basic
Qualifications:
·
JD and
admission to at least one state bar
·
Two years
of litigation experience
Preferred:
·
State and
federal litigation experience, including motions practice and
extensive discovery
·
Ability
to work effectively both in teams and independently; to make
effective, integrated decisions; and to collaborate effectively with
associates at all levels in the company
·
Ability
to prioritize a significant volume of litigation matters and to
manage multiple, simultaneous deadlines
·
Excellent
written and oral communication skills with the ability to influence
others
Strongly
Preferred:
·
Two to
five years of litigation experience in a major law firm or Fortune
500 company in-house legal department
·
Consumer
finance litigation experience
·
Dispute
resolution experience, including negotiating in mediation and
arbitration
·
Richmond
area or Northern Virginia area residence. If candidate resides in
Northern Virginia, candidate must be willing to spend significant
time in our Richmond offices
